The McCobin Mountains Story
The McCobin Mountain property is a one-of-a-kind venue in the Endless Mountains of Pennsylvania that embodies nearly a century of work and tradition.
It all began right before World War II when a poor Polish couple decided to leave Europe and come to the U.S. When they arrived at Ellis Island, an Irish immigration officer couldn’t pronounce their last name and so told them, “Your new name is McCobin. Welcome to America.”
For the next decade, they worked in Philadelphia, saving every dollar they could, until eventually, they had enough money to buy a farm out in the countryside. It wasn’t good farmland - its best crop was rocks. But it was beautiful. And they made enough to raise a family of 10.
After they passed, the farm was divided up between their children. Some sold their share. Some built homes. And one of them decided to invest in more land. Michael McCobin purchased this property to have more room for his own growing family to roam the woods, keep growing crops, and enjoy the Pennsylvania mountainside. He and his sons went from camping in tents to building a cabin with their own hands (including a wooden floor to provide greater comfort for his wife, Estelle, rather than a dirt floor, as originally planned) to building a retirement home so they could enjoy the property and then pass on to the next generation to preserve and enjoy, as well.
Now, it belongs to the next generation, and Alexander McCobin is excited to give others the opportunity to enjoy the magic of this special property as well.
