FAQs

  • Drive. You have to drive to Sullivan County. If you’re coming from far away, the nearest airports are Wilkesbarre-Scranton, Harrisburg, Newark, and Philadelphia, and you can rent a car from an established company or Turo to then drive.

  • Housing is not included. But we have some recommendations here: https://www.dutchmountainevents.com/localinformation .

  • Yes! We’ll have activities specifically for children too, and people to watch them when you want a break to enjoy some time to yourself.

  • This is an invitation-only event. If you want to recommend someone else other than you, your partner, and your children to join, please let us know who you recommend!

The Original Mad Mountaineers

Alexander McCobin and Luis Silva-Ball first met in 2011 when Luis was living in Venezuela and started Estudiantes por la Libertad, the Spanish-Speaking Americas arm of Students For Liberty, the organization Alexander was running, expanding SFL’s reach to Latin America for the first time. On their first call, Alexander asked Luis, “Are you sure you want to do this? Chavez and the Venezuelan government won’t like it. This would be dangerous for you.” Luis answered, “Alexander, I’m going to do this with or without you. I’d just rather do it with you.” And that, as they say, was the start of a beautiful (and crazy) friendship.

In 2021, Luis and Alexander went to Alexander’s Pennsylvania mountain property to train for Obstacle Course Races and support each other’s personal and professional endeavors. Since then, we’ve been opening this experience up to others and excited to continue evolving this to support amazing like-valued people meet and support each other’s growth.
